The internationally famous Little Mermaid Statue, the world famous symbol of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was a lot smaller than I had anticipated but very beautiful. It has apparently been repaired many times as vandals have broken her arms and even knocked off her head. However she is beautifully restored now and guarding the harbor. This was taken on the first stop of my recent cruise.

  1. Denmark is one of the symbols of the city.
Hans Christian Andersen wrote "The little Mermaid" fairy tale in 1837 and in 1909 the founder of Carlsberg Breweries, who was fascinated by the story, had the statue built.
