The total eclipse of the sun

The solar eclipse is scheduled to occur between midnight and 4:00 a.m. GMT, Wednesday July 22 , which is 8:00 p.m. to midnight Eastern Daylight Time Tuesday, or 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.
The path of the eclipse is across India, China, Japan and out across the Pacific Ocean. Among the places where you can view the eclipse safely and in the comfort of your own Web browser is at Live Eclipse 2009. This site will be providing a live video stream of the event.
Another useful guide for viewing the eclipse is at Mashable: The Social Media Guide. You've heard of storm chasers, those adventurers who drive dangerously close to tornadoes to get a look; well there are Eclipse Chasers, too. NASA also has an abundance of resources on its site.
A solar eclispe is a phenomenon in which the sun, moon and Earth are aligned, the moon comes between the sun and Earth, casting a shadow on Earth.
