From Ann Kawaguchi about DH (3)

Papa Joe celebrated his birthday in July so we are looking forward to seeing him in Hawaii again this winter.

Jerry and Jeanne from Florida were here for the summer but had to go home early due to business matters. They always have slew of visitors when they are here in Hawaii. You know how the local saying goes: "You are never lonely in Hawaii" (everyone thinks of a reason to visit you).

Since much has been said and written about the H1N1 swine flu illness, I will share a bit of advice that was given to me by my acupuncture doctor. He told me that whenever you travel (or spend time in an airconditioned area such as a large store with many people), you should put a light coating of vaseline inside your nose, and put it as far in as you can. This coating will prevent microscopic cracks from forming along your nasal linings. The germs get into your system through these cracks. If the plane ride is a long one, repeat as necessary...never mind if you look funny doing this...it is better than getting sick. If you forget the vaseline, use water. (I have to admit that I don't know if petroleum jelly (generic name) is allowed on the planes anymore. We will have to ask airline personnel)

This note for Melody and Per: Remember the Chinese Junk that we saw when we had lunch at the yacht club? It was docked at the pier at the Ala Wai Yacht Club and I think we may have taken a photo of it. Well, a couple of months later, a few local guys joined the Chinese crew and sailed that boat to Taiwan. They were nearly there (about 30 miles from their destination) when, the night before they were to get to Taipei, they were run over by a large ship that cut the boat in half. There were 11 on board and were lucky in that only one man was injured. They clung to the boat and were rescued the next day. This was an authentic Chinese Junk ship that was built a long time ago. When the local members of the crew returned to Hawaii, he happened to meet on of our new tennis players named "J.C." . It was a surprise to me when JC started talking about this so I gave him the article that was in the paper which I had cut out to show you two. The name of the ship was "Princess Taiping."
(I think). Maybe you can google it and read the story. The article I cut out was from the Honolulu Star Bulletin but it was also in the tv news so I am sure it was in the Honolulu Advertiser, too.

Koichi is back from Japan, we had the pleasure of having Kini O. coming to play at DHTC, too. The city plans to redo Koko Head courts from the ground up so I think DHTC will get crowded when work starts there. There was a notice from the City that $11,000 was going to be set aside to patch or do work on our courts 1 to 4. Of course, they did not say when this work would commence (what year?). For those of you who are not here, imagine holding a china plate at arm's length and then dropping it on the sidewalk. The shattered pieces will give you a pretty good idea of what courts 1 and 3 look like. I call the really big holes "Diamond Head Craters".

One more important note. Thank you to Sam W. for all the volunteer painting he has done on the benches and fences at our courts. He is now doing some patching of the courts 5 to 10. The lower courts 1-4 are beyond help as far as patching goes. We also want to say Thanks again to Sam W. for speaking at the council meetings along with Karen H., Lurline F.. Joe C., Ray Y.and,Ann M. Many people don't know the time they have put into the matter of talking to the city. Lots of aggravation, too. And, thanks to Frosty, Karen H. and all of you who get on the phone and call the city, too. Ann organized an Adopt a Park clean up but we want to recognize the daily cleaning of these people: Ray Y., Eddie T., Koichi, Ernie D. , Bob F., Makiki John V.,Sam W. and anyone else who helps to pick up any bit of trash and/or leaves to keep our courts clean....A BIG MAHALO TO YOU!!!

Well, as Bugsy says:That's all,folks!

Aloha from Miss Hit
